Backups & Recovery

Backing up your system

Automatic, encrypted backups of settings, apps and data — to USB, NAS or remote targets.

Backups in rumahl distinguish three things: local rollback (snapshots), external backup and off-device replication. For everyday use, an automatic backup to an external target is enough.

Setting up a backup

  1. 1Open Settings → Backup (or the Backup/Updates system app).
  2. 2Choose a target: USB disk, another rumahl/NAS system or a permissioned remote target.
  3. 3Enable the schedule — e.g. daily at 3 am.
  4. 4Backups run as visible jobs: progress and checksum verification in the Job Center.

Testing backups

  • Test the restore at least once per quarter.
  • A backup that was never tested is not a backup.
  • After every major update, verify that the newest backup is complete.

Snapshot policies are not backups: snapshots protect against accidental deletion, but not against device loss. Always add an external backup.
